Search by verse

To search for Bible commentaries just type in the appropriate box:
  • John 1:12-24
  • The engine will return all the pages that contain at least one verse of the range queried. So the pages containing John 1: 14 or Jn 1: 22-30 will be included in the result. But not the pages containing John 1: 11 or John 1: 25-30 because they are out of range.
  • You can combine a verse search with classical search. For instance to know all the pages quoting John Chapter 1 and Saint Augustine, just type Saint Augustine and John 1 in theire relative boxes.
  • You can use abbreviations like Jn for John and use common biblical separators.
  • [Luke 5,7-8] indicates that both the verse 7 and verse 8 should be referenced in the document, without it is an implicit or.

Classical search

To search with Biible, just type in a few words. The search engine will return the pages that contain those words and also contain a Bible reference.
  • Results only include pages that contain all of the query words.
  • Use quotes around words that must occur adjacently, as for an expression, e.g., "God is Love".
  • Punctuation between words also triggers phrase matching. So searching for http://www.vatican.va/ is the same as searching for "http www vatican va".
  • Searches are not case-sensitive, so searching for BaPtIsTe is the same as searching for bApTiStE.
  • You can prohibit a term from resulting pages by putting a minus before it, e.g., searching for sacrement -baptism will find pages that discuss sacrement, but don't use the word "baptism".

Search by Language

Biible indexes many languages and has the goal to index all languages. When doing a search by Bible verse, the search engine will give pages in the default language or in all languages. This is very useful but some time is also disturbing. You can limit the search to a specific language by adding: lang:language-code
    Somes examples:
  • lang:fr will only display references in French.
  • lang:en will only display references in English.
  • The list of codes is based on the standard ISO-639-1, Biible is recognizing more than 140 languages and is improving constantly. So please try to see if your preferred language is in.
